Andre-Jean Belloir has set up an original breeding system with 60 broodmares and his own stallions, including Crillon, over vast plains with a view on the Mont-Saint-Michel.
Over fifteen years, Andre-Jean Belloir has bred show-jumping horses. He had finished 3rd at the Barcelone Olympic Games with Razzia du Poncel, used the embryo transfer, but given the lack of prize money in the show jumping sphere, he decided to switch to racing in 2004. Settled over the 320 acres of his family’s farm at Pontorson, Andre-Jean Belloir had bred mostly for the name of his neighbour Dom Lyphard, a star of Cagnes Sur Mer.
Andre-Jean Belloir gives a capital importance to the strength of volume. For this, he organised a deal with Yannick Fertillet and has quickly set up a broodmare band of 60 mares coming from the trainer’s stables. Amongst them, Reine Quest, a Rainbow Quest sister to the Classic Reggane. In order to manage costs and time, he has recruited 3 stallions from home, first Crillon, then Pistolero, a brother to Pistolet Bleu, and Louveteau, a brother to Loup Solitaire. Besides, he has acquired Snow Cap, rented in 2010 in the Cher county to Valérie Vatel.
Andre-Jean Belloir also produced himself all the horse feed and proceeds to the gynaecologic follow-up of his own mares. He had 35 foals in 2007, 41 in 2008 and 45 in 2009. With also his 4 Trotter stallions in stallion stations, he gets 250 mares covered a year.
A former crop farmer, Andre-Jean Belloir has converted all of it into pastures, notably the rich alluvium lands of the polders surrounding the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, mainly occupied by market gardeners who can easily grow vegetables and salads in the middle of a field without any watering system.
ut of the 60 mares, there are 10 French Trotters and 50 Thoroughbred or AQPS. Our of the 50 flat racing mares, about 2/3rd are in partnership with Yannick and the rest entirely belongs to the stud farm. The products or broodmares are for sale at any age.
