Situated 20mn away from Pau, not far from Aire-sur-l'Adour, Haras du Bosquet was founded 60 years ago by Jean Laborde, an historic figure in the SW racing. His daughter Veronique took the farm over in 1994. The stud is based on 135 acres of heavy ground (surrounded by corn fields) and gather 50 boxes. All horses are brought in every day. Jean Laborde started his breeding with anglo-arabians. He strongly defended the breed along with Christian Bellot. Veronique kept 2 important mares who recently bred Cherco (best AA on the flat in 2010) and Manga Blue (by Mangarose, a top AA sire).
For a while, Haras du Bosquet owned Haras de Sees in Normandy, which allow them to rotate their grazing lands, and stand stallions like Rose Laurel and RB Chesne. After 15 years, they sold the farm to Thierry Ardisson, a french tv presenter.
To follow local traditions, Haras du Bosquet breed all type of gallopers, anglo-arabians (tradition), thoroughbreds (passion), arabians (financial support) and AQPS, brought by Bruno Thierry, Veronique's partner. They now have 17 mares and board 3 arabians.
Haras du Bosquet breed to sale and race. They send their horses to be trained mainly in SW, with Didier Guillemin (Cherco's trainer), Philippe Boisgontier, Francois Rohaut and Jean-Pierre Totain for arabians.
In regards to the sales, given the difficulty to appear in Deauville's catalogues, Haras du Bosquet does not take their mares to norman stallions anymore and focus on La Teste. They send most of their mares to Policy Maker in 2011, standing at Haras de Gelos.
