Farmer's daughter Marie-Laure Collet discovered the world of horses when doing work experience with Alain Régnier at the Haras de la Haie Neuve. She followed a classic route into breeding, combining her studies with an internship  at the Haras du Logis, a BTS at the Haras du Cadran, and several periods abroad including with Martin Pipe, at Genesis Green Stud and in Ireland where she was in charge of outside mares at Morrinstown Lattin Stud. She also worked in sales preparation for Peter Kavanagh in Ireland as well as in Australia and New Zealand.

At the same time, her parents set up a private breeding operation, with a certain success. Their first mare Lady Night produced Tresor de Mai, a graded winner in England. The second, River Sans Retour, with local stallion Myrakalu, produced American Gr 3 winner Fantastic Filly, but when she revealed her talents River Sans Retour was taken back by Emmanuel de Seroux. Marie-Laure's father Jean Collet sought a mare from the same family and found one of her earlier daughters, Miss Bio, who was in foal to the Anglo-Arab Chef de Clan. He then had her covered by Verglas, and the result was Stormy River, sold for 60,000 € at Deauville and winner of the Gr 1 Prix Jean Prat, Gr 3 Prix de Fontainebleau and Messidor, and placed in the Gr 1 Criterium International, Poule d'Essai, St James's Palace Stakes, Ispahan and Moulin de Longchamp.

In autumn 2008, Marie-Laure Collet and her father moved to new premises at Gaec where they offer all breeding servies to outside clients. The Haras de Clairefontaine covers 74 hectares and also features a 20-box barn, scanning facilities and a covered arena.

The Haras de Clairefontaine takes in horses at rest, for post-operatory care, breeding and foaling. Horses are brought in at night and fed inside. Marie-Laure takes in horses year-round, offers transport to visit stallions, and also sales preparation. She also takes outside horses for veterinary scans.

The stud is also developping its own breeding operation with 4 mares including the dam and sister of Stormy River.
