Mathieu Coutin comes from the world of Sport horses. Being from Normandy, where he was a show jumping and cross country eventing rider, he started the Ecuries de la Daudaie un 2005, near Segre, in Anjou. He breaks yearlings in but he particularly focused on rehabilitating racehorses, notably those who suffer from tendon problems.

Along with his veterinary companion, Sarah Fournier, he has set up a method that includes going through a footbath full of spring water, anti-inflammatory that replaces the cold showers while being less hard than chriotherapy, associated to ultrasound sessions, which have a fibrolitic effect.

This allows the healing to be done only through the formation of fibers that follow the tendon shape. In consequence, the tendon deformities decrease in size and mainly, the tendon retains its elasticity, thus its efficacy.

The care work starts 10 days after the inflammation. A horse that has a tendon inflammation starts with an ultrasound session every 3 days and goes through the footbath twice a day. When the horse isn't lame anymore, after about 3 weeks, he goes back to the horse walker before starting a light work again by short sessions of 10 minutes, firstly on firm ground. The horse can go back to training about 4 months after the lesion. Using this method, he has recently treated Quincy Mae, who was stopped 6 months before winning 6 races in 7 starts in 2009.

The facilities at the Ecuries de la Daudaie include a footbath, a covered horsewalker, 2 arenas (one firm and one soft ground) and a 4 furlongs track. For the more important works, Mathieu Coutin uses the neighbouring training track of Guy Denuault. For the treatments, he also uses a small river with flow to bath the horses.

Besides, Mathieu Coutin owns a private stud operation over 110 acres, with 7 broodmares, and stands 2 stallions: Princeton and Nicobar.
