Son of a trotting breeder, Hubert Lépée spent his schooldays with future trainer François Rohaut and breeder Nicolas de Lageneste. He converted his activity towards gallop racing around 15 years ago. In parallel to his profession as a solicitor, his passion for horses has led him to run his own breeding operation on the 13 hectares of his property which overlooks the town of Montluçon and stretches down to the Cher river. He therefore restricts his numbers of breeding stock. Hubert Lépée's first jumps broodmare was Urtica V, from the Haras de Saint-Voir. She is out of base AQPS mare Radio Paris, whose descendants include First Gold, Louping d'Ainay, Melinor and Rivoli. Lépée now owns a daughter of Urtica V named Hache de Guerre, who has produced three-time winner in England Ordre de Bataille (Ungaro) and Seigneur de Guerre (Alberto Giacometti), a winner on his debut in 2009.
In addition, Hubert Lépée acquired Auteuil scorer Ama (Cadoudal) in foal to Astarabad in 2008 and she gave birth to a dark bay colt (see photo). He also owns Iowa de Chalamont (Royal Charter), a sister of Gr 1 winner Rêve de Sivola's dam Eva de Chalamont. Iowa de Chalamont bore a grey son of Al Namix in 2009. Lépée's fourth broodmare is Insurrection, a daughter of Surumu which is owned in association with Nicolas de Lageneste. He also keeps one trotting broodmare, Kurieuse, who won six races.
Hubert Lépée's trotters are trained by Karim Hawas and Joël Deprés, while his jumpers are with Etienne Leenders who has the promising AQPS Sweet Surprise. Hubert Lépée is a private breeder who commercialises his produce.
