Pierre de Maleyssie-Melun has always been with horses; he is a nephew to Comte Bertrand de Tarragon. After growing up at Haras de Maulepaire, he studied in a zootechnical school in Rambouillet, went to the Irish National Stud for work experience before going to USA for 3 years and worked for two of the biggest farm in Kentucky: Airdrie and Gainesway Farm. Back home, he started to breed in different places in the Sarthe region before settling down at Pézé-le-Robert, very near Sillé-le-Guillaume, next to a 8650 acres public forest, in a cattle farm transformed into a studfarm. There is 185 acres of land around the main buildings but also in various locations near the village, which entitles different types of grounds. Situated at the border of the "Mancelles Alps", the paddocks are pretty hilly with natural sources. Now, the facilities include a 28 boxes barn, 4 boxes and 3 sheds for foalings near the house. The gynecologic examinations occur 3 times a week on the premises thanks to the vets from Meslay-du-Maine.
Pierre de Maleyssie-Melun owns few broodmares and boards outside mares for the season or all year round, as well as horses on a break or on special care. He foals all the mares himself. He employs 4 people.
The 1st mare Pierre de Maleyssie-Melun bred for himself was Donebola, born in 1988, who won 11 flat races. To help him when he started, his uncle Bertrand de Tarragon gave him two foals to raise including the future english champion Clan Royal. He also gave him two fillies, Qualite de la Vie who bred 10 winners, including Pantruche (Prix Edmond Barrachin, Gr.3) and Vimosa (3rd Listed on the flat), future grand-dam to Taranis, Gr.1 winner in the UK.
Younger sister to Chef de Clan, Temara, an complementary anglo arabian, won few races before becoming a great broodmare and produced Azertyuiop, Bipbap, Firmin, Pocahontas and Ellapampa. She is also grand-dam to Saccageur (2nd in the Prix La Périchole, Gr.3, in 2010).
Pierre de Maleissye-Melun owns a dozen of mares himself, all national hunt.
