Panis rising back to notoriety

When he joined the prestigous Haras du Quesnay, alongside Highest Honor and Anabaa at the time, Panis was the source of much discussion. This was understandable as he had made a decent start with his first juvenile generation conceived in the Gironde region at Alain Chopard's Haras des Faunes. From the outset, with his first progeny born in 2003, Panis registered 5 winners of 7 races from 10 runners in 2005. The following year he maintained the same rhythm and most importantly produced a Gr 3 winning filly at Deauville, named Out of Time.

Only son of Miswaki in France

A very useful racehorse without ever becoming a champion for Pascal Bary, he won the Gr 3 Prix de Condé as a juvenile then the Gr 3 Prix Messidor for his final outing. Panis has a rather unusual pedigree. He is a son of Miswaki, famous as the sire of Urban Sea so the dam's sire of Sea The Stars etc, but represented remarkably little in male pedigrees. In France, he is also present in various levels of the pedigrees of Adnaan, Sulamani and Dragon Dancer, who all descend from his daughter Whakilyric. More surprisingly, he is the maternal grandsire of Subsidy and Petit Cayras, both stallion sons of Midyan standins in the Oise and Corsica respectively. In addition, Midyan is the dam's sire of Out Of Time, whose breeder Maxime Jarlan was brave enough to attempt a 2x3 inbreeding to Miswaki. Panis has a rather American pedigree, and is the brother of a tireless winner of 10 listed events in the USA named Political Whit. His dam carries the bloodlines of Roberto and War Admiral.

Waiting for a revelation

Rather like for Kingsalsa, the French breeding world expected great things from Panis after witnessing his debuts and his arrival in a major Normandy stud. During the 2007 and 2008 seasons, he maintained his steady rhythm, notably with a number of "chop" suffixes bred by Alain Chopard who has adopted the South-West tradition of raising precocious juveniles.

The revelation of Blue Panis

This summer Panis's progeny have once again achieved black type. He has not only attained a commendable score of 9 winners in the summer stallions' standings (see article), which places him at the same level as Desert Style and Elusive City, but he has once again tasted Pattern success. The son who has thrust him back into the limelight has an easily recognisable name. Blue Panis was bred by predominantly jumps-oriented breeder Karine Belluteau near Gémozac and he won at Maisons-Laffitte in spring before finishing third in a major Listed contest at Deauville. Recently acquired by Gérard Augustin-Normand, he is from the final crop of the stallion when he was based at the Haras des Faunes, and his dam is by Bering who is now Panis's neighbour at the Quesnay.

All at Osarus

Panis was succeeded in Gironde by Indian Rocket, and is now accompanied by Soave, whose first yearlings passed through the Osarus ring on 11 September.
Panis was represented by three yearlings at Osarus and only one at Deauville in August, but he made an impact with this brother of Suborneuse who was sold by the Haras du Logis for the sum of 45,000€, 7.5 times the nomination fee in 2007.
