Policy is a hit with a 2-year-old

Policy Maker thus opens his record as a sire thanks to Polanera's victory at Lyon, during this lovely Critérium meeting, this Friday 17th September, for Xavier Bétron, his trainer who leased her from her breeder Jean Arnaud. This latter is one of the rare Thoroughbred breeders settled in the Ain county. He had made a long trip to the Orne to get the filly conceived, her who broke the ice on her second start, only a month after her 2nd place on debuts at Vichy. Her dam, Arena (Marchand De Sable), who wasn't that great of a racehorse (8 places in 21 starts in the lesser races), stayed faithful to the French National Stud since the start as before Policy Maker, she had only met Fragrant Mix, 3 times in a row, to give a good horse, Arenix, who passed the €100,000 in earnings.

Policy Maker has started stud duties at the Haras National du Pin in 2007, standing for €2,000. In the Spring 2010, he moved to the station of Gelos, near Pau in the South West, standing at €1,800, where he's been a hit with 70 mares covered and where he will remain in 2011.

Policy Maker is an attractive horse of 16.1hh, well balanced even though he isn't a bony horse. He is quite exquisite and elegant with a nice length of rein. We'd thus be tempted to mate him with big bony mares, but the risk would be that he wouldn't bring them any speed. His maternal family indeed, the same as his cousin Peintre Celebre (Arc de Triomphe) and his brother Pushkin (Maurice de Nieuil), is purely Classic. Himself has never ran at 2 but won at 3 years in the Grand Prix de Deauville Gr.2 over 12.5 furlongs. Although he has never won at the highest level, he stayed at or near the top until six years where he won the Grand Prix de Chantilly. He also took a superb 4th place in the Japan Cup, further to having had the advantage for one moment. This has helped him reach the million euros in earnings. His distance rating on France Sire is 12.5f.
 

Anyway, this don of Sadler's Wells has the typical profile for the NAtional Stud to become a good jump stallion. Except that he surprises by illustrating himself straight away with the opposite results, a juvenile winner over the mile.

Polarena is for now the one and only starter that Policy Maker has had on the track. His 2-year-old crop counts a total of 34 products declared to be born, plus (only!) 4 AQPS. Polarena included, Policy Maker only has 5 products currently declared in training. He will thus only have a small handfull of starter until the end of the year. It is thus not impossible that he keeps his statistics of 100% with his 2-year-old quite unexpected in his register.
