Sèvres Rose against the march of the giants

Ephemère's dam was not as talented as Eightfold Path's, but he is nevertheless well bred on the maternal side as he descends from the first mare acquired by the Baron Edouard de Rothschild, Oczy Czarnie, winner of the Gr 1 Prix de la Salamandre and dam of French-based sire Ultimately Lucky, who stands at the Haras de Grandcamp.
 

Sèvres Rose

Giant's Causeway is priceless. When he conceived Ephemère, Sèvres Rose stood for a fee of 1500€. His story is a remarkable one. An unraced son of Gr 1 Prix Vermeille winner Indian Rose and Caerleon, he began his stud career in 1997 at the Haras de Meautry in complete obscurity. Between the golden period and the return to form symbolised by Pinson, Baron Guy de Rothschild's stable was at the time experiencing something of a black hole. Sèvres Rose could be taken for a ghostly guardian of a magnificent yet empty equine museum... Limited to a book of just 5 mares by a rule which has now been abolished, the stallion covered only one mare in his first season, a daughter of Gr 1 Prix Saint-Alary winner Grise Mine, named Peu Grise.

A record breaker in winning percentages

Luckily, this mare bore a foal named Gris de Fer, who finished second in the Gr 2 Prix Noailles! While he had no other progeny in 1999 or 2000, Sèvres Rose began to reap the rewards of this rather unique exploit. But his harvest remained limited: 3 foals in 2001, of which none raced, 8 in 2002. And then came another jackpot! The François Bayrou-bred Viane Rose won the Gr 3 Prix de la Nonette. Sèvres Rose breaks the records of winning percentages. H confirms his ability each year despite very small books of mares. Born in 2003, Penne is Listed-placed, and from his 2004 generation, Tigresse Rose has accomplished the same over jumps.

Finally a complete generation born in 2007

In the spring following the success of Viane Rose in 2006, Sèvres Rose finally enjoyed a change of regime with a list of 85 mares. Ephemère is one of the first runners from this generation who are now juveniles. As the Meautry have ceased standing stallions, Sèvres Rose joined Fabrice Besnouin at the Haras de Grand'Cour for 2009.

Viane Rose has already offered to his father Sèvres Rose a victory of Gr.3 in the Price of Nonette on 2005.

Aproved for the first time to cover AQPS mares, Sèvres Rose received 20 broodmares including some talented jumpers whose breeders were attracted not only by his good value but also as his dam is a sister of Le Nain Jaune. Fabrice Besnouin retains the sire for 2010 and is confident of the potential success of the current juvenile generation which has been praised by Jean-Claude Rouget. There may even be a Gr 1 winner among them, and there is always reason to hope! After all, Sèvres Rose has already risen to the challenge!
