Sunday Break moves to the Haras de la Haie Neuve

He became a stallion in the USA, where he spent all his racing career, winning the Peter Pan Stakes (Group 2) and finishing third in the Belmont Stakes (Group 1). Born in Japan, Sunday Break was imported to France in 2009. He arrived soon after his son Never On Sunday's revelation, first of his progeny to excel in Europe by winning the Prix du Prince d'Orange (Group 3). He did even better in the spring of 2009 with his success in the Prix d'Ispahan (Group 1). The presence of Never on Sunday in France, and also of his sire, is the result of an amazing coincidence of which the breeder Bernard Jeffroy (SCEA de la Prairie - Brittany) shares on France Sire TV (see the documentary on Never on Sunday).

After two breeding seasons in the Haras de Grandcamp, in the Orne region with Eric Lhermite, Sunday Break will now stand for at least two years at the Haras de la Haie Neuve (Alain Regnier) from 2011, on the border of the Loire Valley and Brittany. The main goal is to bring national hunt breeders, well established in the West. Indeed, Sunday Break distinguished himself on the national hunt scene thanks to his american son Orsippus, winner over hurdles at Cheltenham. This gives Sunday Break breathtaking statistics, as he only had 6 runners in Europe, including another black type in Italy and a winner in Paris in April.

While his first crop in France are foals, his 2yos progeny in America is highlighted by Maybesomaybenot, winner of two Group 2 in Saratoga and scheduled to run in the Breeders'Cup Juvenile. Alain Regnier is familiar to this purely american cross, Forty Niner with a Storm Cat mare. He already worked with the late High Yield issued from the same line but the other way around (Storm Cat with a Forty Niner mare).

Sunday Break's fee is not yet decided. It should be around €3000 or €3500.

At the Haras de la Haie Neuve, Sunday Break will join the confirmed Della Francesca, the japanese Peer Gynt, and two sons of Storm Cat, Hurricane Cat and Hold That Tiger. The latter will also be represented at the Breeder's Cup by one of his son, Smiling Tiger, recent Group 1 winner.
